Little Pono naturalists and engineers to save the environment in the Fall of 2014

We are thrilled to announce that Pono will be partnering this fall with the owner of Storefront Science, Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone, to further the children’s knowledge of the world of nature and ecology. For the past four years, the Pono children have been exploring and examining nature in and around NYC with our former naturalist, Anne-Marie Vaduva, Westmoreland Sanctuary naturalists, NYC Park Rangers, as well as many other naturalists who either came to us or we visited on our trips.

This Fall Dr. Ardizzone will guide the children in a longitudinal study of a specific aspect of nature for the purpose of creating a solution for an environmental problem. The children’s fascination with nature and electricity was the inspiration for this focus. Key to this project is the children’s original thoughts and creativity along with Dr. Ardizzone’s guidance in research and engineering.

For the past year, Dr. Ardizzone has taught lessons at Pono on the human body, the periodic table, geology, symbiosis, atoms, insects, and electricity, all of which the children have asked for.
