SMALL CLASS SIZES
Pono is a democratic, outdoor and urban learning center where children spend the majority of their time outdoors. Students share their interests, and Pono brings them to life through enriching field trips and high-quality tours and lessons. In one week, children might create laser-cut designs at a makerspace or volunteer on a rooftop farm, interact with wildlife at a nature sanctuary or visit a foundry, explore the city through its diverse food cultures or engage in a scavenger hunt at the Met. It all depends on where the students’ interests and imaginations take them.
How it works
CAMP WEEKS
Camp runs from July 18 to September 2, 2022. Parents can sign up their children for one week or up to seven weeks.
CAMP DAYS AND TIMES and location
Campers explore a variety of destinations in and around NYC on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and learn about and connect with nature at our partner sanctuary in Mount Kisco, NY on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pick-up and drop-off is at Grand Central Terminal (89 E 42nd Street, New York, NY, 10017).
KINDNESS, RESPECT, AND INCLUSION
At Pono, personal development and participation in a community of kindness, respect, and inclusion are essential. In our daily operation, we value freedom not license, collaboration not competition, resolving conflict through agreement not punishment.
Fees
Pono’s summer camp fee is based on the number of weeks of enrollment and is due at registration.
Safety Measures
Children are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and a negative COVID-19 test result is required at the beginning of every camp week. All of the Pono teachers are fully vaccinated. In compliance with New York State’s guidelines, screening questionnaires and temperature checks are conducted daily, before children join their group. Masks are required unless the children are outdoors and at least 6 feet apart. We also follow all safety protocols put in place by any of our trip destinations.
WHAT YOUR CHILD NEEDS
When you register your child, you will receive an admissions form and will be asked to schedule a 30-minute virtual admissions meeting with our director and teachers. In admissions meetings, we go over what your child needs at the camp, health and wellness procedures, drop-off and pick-up location, and answer any questions you may have.
