Ballet as a Basis with Francis Walker (Thursdays)

Ballet as a Basis introduces the fundamentals of dance movement. Students will develop gross motor skills, practice creative expression, and build a supportive environment with their peers. This class teaches the structure of ballet as a foundation for multiple styles of movement. Children will complete the session able to use dance vocabulary, count music, and with tools for physical storytelling.

Originally from Oregon, Francis grew up dancing both in her hometown and at The Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education. In 2013, Francis relocated to Chicago, and became the Artistic Director of Bronzeville Academy of Dance. Francis taught ballet, tap, and jazz, while also performing contemporary works as a member of Ardent Dance Company. She has since lived in New York City, where she studied with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and performs with Dance Visions NY.

Date:  Every Thursday, January 9th through March 12th (except February 20th). There are 9 classes this term.

Time: 3:00pm to 4:00pm
