Introduction to Ikebana: Japanese Flower Arrangement, with Yuri Ishizuka
This class is an introduction to ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Learn to create ikebana at home with classic or alternative materials. “When you hold a single beautiful flower in your hand and wonder how to display it – in that moment a dialogue begins between your heart and the flower” (Ikenobo Ikebana by Ikenobo Sen’ei).
Yuri Ishizuka has given ikebana demonstrations, exhibitions, and workshops for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tiffany & Co., the United Nations, the residence of the Japanese Consulate General, St. Paul’s Chapel of Columbia University, the Kitano Hotel, and the Nippon Club. She is a senior professor of the Ikenobo Ikebana School. Yuri began her studies in Japan and continued to foster her knowledge in New York City. From 2017 to 2019, she served as the President of the New York chapter of Ikebana International. Yuri is also an active member of Ikenobo, the oldest and largest school of ikebana, based in Kyoto, Japan.

For this class you will need:
Several fresh flower and plant stems
Flower scissors (or regular metal scissors)
Vase & water (or a big tall glass and sheet of paper)
Kenzan, Pinholder, or Oasis (or scotch tape and an empty water bottle or clear cup)
Plastic flower wrapping sheet, which covers and protects flowers (or newspaper)
Extra cup for water
Garbage bag (or shopping bag)
