This contract serves to inform you of our intent to appoint you as teacher in the Winter term.

Terms of Agreement

Thank you for teaching at Pono! You will be paid $30 per class. If you are teaching in April/May, 50% of your Spring term teaching fee will be paid on 4/5/2021, and the remainder 50%, or less as applicable due to absences, will be paid on 5/3/2021. If you are teaching in May/June, 50% of your Winter term teaching fee will be paid on 5/3/2021, and the remainder 50%, or less as applicable due to absences, will be paid on 6/4/2021. Payments will be made through QuickPay with Zelle. You will be asked to submit your QuickPay with Zelle account info below. Planned absences should be submitted to Kate Deshmukh (kate@pono.nyc) along with a lesson plan and contact information for a substitute teacher who will lead the class in your absence. Should you find that you are unwell and unable to find a substitute teacher you must notify Kate Deshmukh (kate@pono.nyc) by 6:00 pm the night before your class; the class will be canceled and you will not be paid for missed classes. If Pono intends to cancel a class due to student absences, you will be notified as soon as possible. If the cancellation is within 24 hours of the scheduled class you will be paid as usual. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, please take the time to look through our Zoom Training section in advance. We are looking forward to working with you this term! VIRTUAL PONO PRINCIPLES, NON-NEGOCIABLES, AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

VIRTUAL PONO CLASSROOM AGREEMENTS

FOR AGES 10 TO 15 YEARS OLD:
- Students need to place themselves in front of a neutral background, not use any of the Zoom backgrounds, and avoid distracting noises or other distracting behavior.
- Students need to dress as they would for coming to class in person.
- Students are expected to be on screen (sitting up and not lying down; and, their full face shown on screen and not just a part of it)
- Students are not to turn their cameras off during the lesson but they can mute themselves to minimize background noise.
- They are not expected to communicate technical difficulties unless they are not able to see or hear the person speaking.
- No interruptions, and comments/questions are supposed to be on topic.
- The Zoom setting represents a virtual Pono classroom. Participation in a community of kindness, respect, and inclusion is essential. We value freedom not license, collaboration not competition, and resolving conflict through council meetings.
- Guidelines regarding digital citizenship apply. Digital citizenship has been defined as “positive, creative, deliberate use of technological tools and skills to create, connect, communicate, and collaborate in ways that make a positive contribution to family, school, and community life.”
- Students need to have readily accessible all materials they may need for this virtual class before class begins.
