Engineering and Constructing, with Brian Oakes
In this class, students will learn about designing and building basic engineering structures. Brian Oakes will cover basic principles of aeronautics, naval architecture, physics, and structural engineering, all with an emphasis on creative problem solving and real-world application. Our engineering experiments may include building a tower, gate, dollhouse, kite, etc.
Brian Oakes is an interdisciplinary sculptor based in New York. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture, with a concentration in computation, from the Rhode Island School of Design. His artwork has been shown in exhibitions in the United States, Japan, China, and Germany. His most recent solo exhibition, Pieces, was shown at Wallplay in New York City.
Day/Time: Thursdays, 9:30-10:30 am Eastern Time

Pipe cleaners or wire that is easy to bend

Wooden chopsticks or thing wooden dowels
Popsicle sticks
Hot glue gun is handy but not necessary and will require adult help
